Your sounds and banks
Can I load my own WAV samples?
Start with your own sounds: import a mono 16-bit PCM WAV at 44.1 kHz, then map it across the keyboard and work on its loops and envelopes.
Keep your original file and work on a copy.
Can I import AIFF or other audio formats?
For your own samples, use mono 16-bit PCM WAV at 44.1 kHz. AIFF is not among the supported formats described here.
Emax banks have their own formats, described below.
Which Emax I banks can I load?
Emax I bank formats are .EM1 and .EB1. DANA preserves this family’s identity: samples, presets and parameters.
Reading depends on the bank structure and content. Check its resource card and keep your original archives.
What about Emax II banks?
Emax II bank formats are .EB2, .EZ2 and .EM2. This family’s sounds and parameters remain distinct from Emax I.
Playing and editing capabilities depend on the bank and its voice modes.
Will all my old banks and disks work?
A bank must match a supported format and structure. A recognised extension alone does not guarantee that every historical archive can be read.
Keep your originals. A portable DANA project and a native floppy image are different file types.
Will sound banks be supplied with DANA?
Check the offer details for the banks supplied with your purchase.
The Resources page distinguishes offer banks, available downloads and publisher resources. Import capabilities do not define what your licence includes.
Sound and functions
Will I find the character and energy of these samplers?
Sampler character comes from the whole signal path: the sample, transposition, loops, envelopes, filters and the movement of voices.
DANA interprets bank parameters and reconstructs identified playing behaviours. Try your own phrases: an attack, a held note and a register change are useful reference points.
Are the original functions and pages reproduced?
Find familiar banks, presets, zones and pages. The work also covers voice rules, controllers, loops and sequences identified in original sources.
Each model retains its own parameters. Functions depend on the bank, format and voice mode; the instrument page presents each family.
Why does a sample change character across octaves?
Transposition changes the sample playback speed. Lower notes lengthen the material and stretch the attack; higher notes shorten and tighten it.
Several samples can share the keyboard registers. Zones, transitions, loops and envelopes shape the resulting instrument.
Can I edit a sample after loading it?
Work on zones, loops, envelopes and voice parameters. Truncate, reverse, Taper, Splice, Combine and gain transform copies of your samples.
SE processing is specific to Emax I SE and compatible native sources. It does not apply indiscriminately to every WAV or bank.
How was DANA reconstructed?
Through study of native formats, parameter tables, documentation and portions of firmware. This targeted reverse engineering recovered rules which were then reimplemented in the software engine.
Some Emax I SE calculations are compared against native instruction and byte references. This does not mean the complete original processor or chipset runs inside DANA.
Are envelopes, modulation and stereo covered?
DANA reads and applies recognised bank parameters: envelopes, gain, filters, LFO, layers and panning contribute to playing. Primary/Secondary and voice modes retain model-specific rules in compatible configurations.
A software engine produces the output. Bank controls build and evolve the note beyond merely loading a sample.
What can Emax I SE processing do?
Spectrum Synthesis builds material using 24 partials and 24 slices, in Smooth or Stepped modes. Transform Multiplication works with two recognised native sources.
These workshops concern Emax I SE. Available calculations and exports depend on source encoding and content; work is performed on copies.
Try and play
How can I try DANA before purchasing?
Try DANA directly in your browser on the Try page. There is no evaluation version to install.
Enable audio in the instrument, choose a bank and play. The guide helps with your first steps.
Does one licence include all platforms?
The licence covers the platforms specified in the selected offer. An edition for another platform is not automatically included.
Check available platforms in the offer details before purchasing.
The instrument is loaded but silent. What should I do?
Enable audio in DANA, then play the on-screen keyboard. Check your computer volume and output device.
Loading the interface alone does not start audio. The guide covers first steps and saving your work. Read the guide.
Can I play with a MIDI keyboard?
The on-screen keyboard lets you begin without additional hardware.
MIDI keyboard connectivity depends on your browser, hardware and permissions. Microphone and MIDI access are optional for the trial.
Keeping your work
How do I keep my settings, variations and sequences?
Export your DANA project to keep settings, variations and sequences in a file outside the browser.
Browser storage depends on the site address and profile. Keep project exports and your original sound archives.
Can I send my work to a real Emax?
A portable DANA project is not a floppy image for every machine.
Native exports depend on the model, format and project content. Check the destination format before transferring a file to hardware.
